CHRISTY COLLARD

Green Build Artist at Future Forests

Christy Collard’s sunny disposition and beautiful instillations recently earned him a mention in The Irish Times Magazine article entitled “The Happy Crew: 30 People Making Life Better”. Whether you’ve seen him drumming on TG4’s Wild Atlantic Way, or had the pleasure of meeting him in person, one thing is certain: Christy can brighten any space.

In 2002 Christy helped Mary Reynolds fulfil her dream of winning a gold medal at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show. Mary designed a wild garden sanctuary, which Christy built with the Future Forests crew.

A feature length film based on their true story has been released in Ireland. Dare to Be Wild also highlights Christy’s work in Ethiopia. He spent over a year volunteering in ancient Lalibela as a consultant and designer for a reforestation project.

BODY & SOUL

Christy primarily designs and builds artisan eco-structures and designs and landscapes natural gardens. He is most known for creating the green-built main stages of Body & Soul at the Electric Picnic. Over a dozen of his unique creations remain an integral part of the festival, lending Body & Soul the earthy style which it is known for.

FUTURE FORESTS

Having grown up in the remote mountains of beautiful West Cork, Christy has a deep love of nature. His parents chose to raise the family with a simple, sustainable lifestyle, and the Collards continue to be strong advocates for the environment. Working at his family’s iconic tree nursery, Future Forests, gave Christy the experience to hone his skills at gardening, woodland management, landscaping, and carpentry. He is involved in ongoing renovations of the family’s business as it continues to evolve.

More recently Christy was commissioned to design a colourful garden at the Crumlin Children’s Hospital in Dublin. His unique woodwork is a central feature there. The garden is a tranquil yet fun place for the children and their families to rest or play.
